One and two generations ago, the primary “counter influences” were peers and rock groups. Legitimate authority was ascribed to parent
and teacher roles. Today, authority is more earned than ascribed and we parents are faced with a leadership challenge which
requires us to stay well connected and informed.
Five years ago, after learning that Grand Theft Auto rewarded such activities as rape, robbery and killing cops, I took a more active
interest in the nature of the video games my child was playing. Whether or not we owned this game, he would eventually gain access
